  1. The best ski mountain in NE is Killington by far.  Its the biggest, has the biggest vertical drop, the most lifts, the most snow, the most trials, the most terrain variety, the best advanced skiing, excellent glades, the list goes on and on.

If you go, I would recommend staying in downtown Rutland.  Its really close to mountain (5-10) minutes, and much much cheaper.  If money is not an issue, then staying at one of Killington's resorts is convenient.

This is a link for the trail map.  I think it speaks for itself:

  2. Sugarbush is one of my favorite mountains... more difficult terrain and because it is so far north in VT and not close to any major highways it tends to be less crowed.  I have been skiing New England for 5 years now and that is my favorite place so far.  Conditions are always great too.  Another one to look at would be Jay Peak in VT which is near the Canadian border.  I have never been, but heard they have the most natural snow in NE and difficult terrain.  You can ski anywhere on that mountain even off the trails.. but it is at your own risk.

    LET IT SNOW! :)

  3. In NE (new England) there is a variety of place and options. If you like skiing knee deep powder and glades, I would recommend going to Mad river glen or Smugs (Smugglers Notch) in VT.

If you like the park allot, I would say Stratton or stowe VT.

If you like nice long mellow groomers, Killington, stratton, and stowe VT.

If you like steeps and challenging trails Killington VT, Stowe VT, smugs VT, and Hunter NY.

A mountain with diffucult terrain and low crouds for you is Smugs, or Mad river Glen. The lift lines are slow though.

Nothing now a days in NE is diffucult not crowded and fast lift lines though

  4. If I had to pick, I would go to Sugabush Mad River Glen or Jay Peak. I have heard Gore NY is also good and not too crowded or expensive. From what I hear the crowds are down in NE  in general due to gas prices, poor economy and high ticket / accomodations.prices.

  5. Cannon Mountain in New Hampshire right near where the old man of the mountain used to be

  6. Mad River Glen, VT: No Snowboarders, Few Crowds, Expert Terrain. MRG has plenty of glades and lots of bumps. The trails tend to be very narrow and winding. If you want a challenge, ski Mad River Glen.

Jay Peak, VT: Very Steep. Lots of Snow. Also has a lot of glades and ungroomed terrain. It does has more variety than Mad River, but I find it equally as challenging.

Both places are sort of off the radar of the typical NYC/NJ and Southern New England  tourists. Jay's location in Northern VT tends to put off those not willing to drive. You will find more residents from Montreal at Jay than you will from New York City. Few tourists have even heard of Mad River Glen, since there are no large hotels or big night clubs at MRG they tend to stay away.

Killington, Stratton, Okemo, and Mount Snow are nothing more than tourist traps.
