Best place on the west coast to moor a boat?

It seems there are hardly any places where you can moor a boat on the west coast. Most places have a 2-3 year waiting list. Anyone have any suggestions?

  1. What about the Oregon coastline?  Sure the water is gray, dingy, and cold but it builds character.  Look at how many happy sailors there are on the upper Pacific coastline in Oregon and Washington.  :)

  2. from Stockton to Antioch the delta is full of places

  3. I don't know what the "best" place would be. I know about the 2-3 year waiting lists but its BS. It may be true at the more popular marinas but if you just look around you can find places to moor your boat. I live on a 52' boat and it is hard to moor say in Seattle but the further away you get from there the easier it is to find moorage. The published places might be over booked. You have to get in touch with the grape vine and put your ear to the ground and something will turn up. Its like finding a good deal with anything. Word of mouth and associating with people already there takes more work but reveals more opportunities. Good luck.
