do not buy them off the street.  I forget the place i went to buy my emerald but it was a shop downtown bogota along the emerald distric's street vendors.  it's past the Church of Maria del Carmen.  Just make sure your emerald is real and you get a certificate of authenticity..  I'll try to get you more information a lil later when i'm at home.
