Auction or online? Theres no auction on OK until November that I know of. If you have information on one, please share. Or do you know of a reputable website?

  1. www.dreamhorse.com

  2. I would get a trainer with connections to the type horse you want. Most know of good horses that match what you need. My trainer typically knows of a few that arent even listed for sale but the owner would sell if the right price was offered. Online is also a good place to look around. It is not the sites that are not reputable it is the people who use them. I would watch for a scam where ever you are looking. I recently found a horse for a friend via a barns SALE page. You might want to check out local barn's sites or call and see if they have or know of anything.

I would not go to auction unless you can deal with whatever comes home with you. I had a Barn Owner pick up a really pretty mare that seemed to be well trained with a good personality. They took her home and let her go in a 3 acre pasture. Turns out she had been drugged. It took several months to catch her and she never became a good riding horse. Obviously she had been broke to saddle the old cowboy way (gives a real meaning to breaking a horse) and never learned to trust people. The drugs masked everything. They had to give her away as a pasture horse when she tired (and nearly succeded) in killling a rider.

  3. Unless you are VER VER VERY experinced I would NOT go to an acution. Most horses there are going to meat, you get what you see, and most are sedated.

--SO-- I would say sonline, but then agian you get what you see.

Try going through ads in magazines, or make sure you go to see an online horse first.

    AND TAKE SOMEONE WITH YOU!!!!!!!

  4. Both depending on your level with horses. I like Dream Horse. They have a lot of ads.

  5. do NOT go to an auction unless you are very experienced.

you do not know anything about the horse, and you could spend a lot of money on a terrible one.

    http://www.equine.com/

    that's my favorite^^^

i always see great horses for sale there :]

here are a few others i know of:

    http://www.dreamhorse.com/

    http://www.horseville.com/

    http://horsefinders.com/

    http://www.agdirect.com/

you can also ask your barn if there are any horse rescue organizations, or just any horses for sale that they know of.

also, check your classifieds in your newspaper.

you can google horse breeders in your area also.

    hope this helped:]

  6. Check out this site. You can view horses by breed, State ect.

  7. Do not go to an action, many of the horses have health problems, and or bad when ridden. The barn I work at buys all his horses from actions, almost everyone of those horses that come through are crazy, hard to handle, have leg problems, blind, basically almost all of them have some problem. During action when someone wants to get rid of there horse b/c there is a some problem with them, they will drug them. My advise is search for horses on dream horse.com, go to a horse dealer (not the auction) look online, or there is a magazine called the stead read and people avritise horses there. If you live near CT Pee Wee Horse Farm, has over 70 horses forsale. Hope this helped

  8. I went through the same thing when looking for my horse. But auctions are DEFINITLEY not the way to go. Yes, you do hear the odd story of someone finding this amazing horse for so much under what it is worth, but for every one story of that you hear 50 of someone buying a lame horse that could only be worked for an hour a week.

Here is a list of websites that I have found work very well:

www.equinehits.com ----where i found my current horse

    www.equinenow.com

    www.horsetopia.com

    www.freehorseads.com

    www.horsecountry.ca ---Canadian

  9. Online is far better.  At the auction you will find many horses that are drugged, been mistreated, ill trained, etc.  Think of it this way, the auction is where you get the lowest prices so the auctions are where the horses that are not worth selling outright are to be found.  Now this is not true with all horses but it is true with many.  However, online is almost as bad since you do not know the seller there either.

Your best bet is to go to a small farm/breeder that knows what they are doing and takes lots of time with each individual horse.  Unless you are an expert in judging horse flesh, this is inevitably where you find the best horse for the best price.

I am selling a 2 yr old fading black filly for her owner (I am doing this free gratis because her and her husbands are best friends of ours).  Here is the site if you want to look.  Look under for sale.

BTW these small breeders can sometimes be found on the internet and sometimes in local classified papers.  I always check locally first.

  10. There are a lot of horses for sale on:

    www.equine.com

Also check your local paper or talk to trainers. I have found going through trainers is a good idea, because I can have someone qualified evaluate the horse. If you know a good trainer call her/him up and see if they can think of a good horse for you.

Horses at auction could be trouble, you might be getting a horse that was abused or neglected, or that someone is just dumping because the horse has lots of bad behaviors.

  11. do NOT go to an auction. you don't know what you're buying until you bring it home and it's a nightmare. if you buy a horse online, obviously the owners will let you try it. but theres always trashy people out there who will try to rip you off and sell you a horse you don't want.. i'd suggest going over to holland or germany and trying a few warmbloods. the atmosphere is WAY different over there, every single horse there is a top notch hunter.

and a reputable website is www.bigeq.com. there are a lot of imported horses on there already, from europe and it's a high class website with high class horses. real horse people campaign their horses on that website, infact it is the only website, besides MAYBE equine.com that i would trust.

  12. I think your best bet is on www.equine.com. Millions of horses have been sold on there and its easy and free to search. People have even said good things about the site, and I have been on it and its really nice, even if I haven't bought a horse on there.[not enough money] Hope I helped.
