  1. If you live in Huntington Beach, then there is Rockin fig.

  2. I don't know where you live, so that makes this a tough one. There are at least three Ron Jon surf shops, the one in Orlando is the only one that isn't near the ocean. If that means you don't live near the ocean, you have to work at this a little bit. If you live or visit an ocean area, there are ALWAYS surf shops.

The best place to buy a surfboard, any time, ever, at any price, is a surf shop. The surfing professionals there will help you find a board that fits your local breaks, your body size, your skill level and your budget.

You need to go to a REAL surf shop, not a bathing suit store that sells some surfboards. Go to a place where they have a bigger inventory of surfboards than sunglasses and Hawaiian shirts. However, if you go in and act like A kook tourist, you may not get the best reception of all. if you are into surfing, they will help you.

DO NOT buy a surfboard on line. I have been surfing for 42 years, and there is almost nothing that I would trust buying on line. Well, okay, I did buy a wet suit vest once on line, and some T-shirts, but NOT A SURFBOARD!

  3. Buy a used board at your local surf shop.  If you dont have a surf shop near you, then that brings up the question of if there is any surf where you live and whether its worth it to actually buy a board.

  4. Go to a Shapers/Shops/Friends and ask if they got any used surfboards for sale. Or go on craigslist or ebay.

  5. If you go to either place, you'll pay retail. Sometimes pawn shops have some nice boards. I've heard some use

    http://craigslist.org

to find local used boards without the retailer mark up.

  6. The best place is your local shop. If you don't have a local shop, then a shop close to where you will surf. The guys there know what they are talking about, they know what kind of waves are around and therefore more about how to help you choose your board. Buying on the internet is sketchy, for anyone, not just beginners. I would never trust my money to craigslist or even to buy a used board online.

I remember last year, some dude had his board stolen in Montauk, and apparently some other guy bought it from the theif on craigslist and the two dudes met on the beach, the one whose board was stolen and the poor guy who bought his stolen board. Word got around to check craigslist if your board is stolen, they even did an article about such a thing in Surfing Mag. Anyway, its a waste of money to buy it on the internet, unless you know what you're doing (which, no offense, you don't otherwise you wouldn't be asking here).

  7. Your local surf shop. Generally surf stores cater to the crowd in the immediate area. For example down here in Hawaii, near the Waikiki/town areas there are shops with a good selection of longboards. Meanwhile the North shore side is a great place to find performance boards. All depends what type of board you're looking for. If you'll be surfing a local break, check the surf shops nearest the area, they are most likely to be carrying boards appropriate for that nearby break.

I wouldn't recommend craigslist unless you're somewhat experienced and know exactly what you're looking for, and what the price ranges should be for what condition the board is in.

  8. You're best bet is a local surfshop, www.craigslist.com, http://www.surfboardshack.com/used_board... www.chubbysurf.com, and boardhunt.com. You can find steals or get ripped off so research before you buy!
