Can anyone suggest anywhere that has a nice beach, nightlife but not 18-30's kinda thing!, entertainment in the evenings, waterpark, zoo and plenty of things to do/places to go during the day anywhere in Spain or Portugal? Hoping to travel in June/July before the kids finish school. Want to avoid the tacky tourist areas if possible.

  1. Spain is many countries all rolled into one therefore the culture in Spain is very varied and interesting. Its Atlantic shores and the huge plains of the interior have very distinct characteristics. Similarly, the Mediterranean Costa's change ‘flavour’ as they sweep down from the Pyrenees through the pine forests of the Costa Brava. 2. Hi. How nice that you are looking into Spain for holidays. I am from Sweden but have been living in Bilbao, in the north of Spain for the last 10 years.

I know that most tourists go to the South, but if you want a different Spain vacation, and not a tacky tourist area, Bilbao is definitely to be considered. This part of Spain is still low on foreign tourists. The bars/restaurants are Spanish/Basques and not German/English like the ones you might encounter in the"Costa del Sol".

The city of Bilbao has a lot to offer in terms of shopping, culture and night life. The Guggenheim museum is a must see! And, not far you can find some great beaches. I especially recommend a fishing village called Plentzia that has a gorgeous, clean, tourist free beach. You can get there by metro in 50 minutes. My kids love it!

I am presently building an informative web-page about Bilbao. I have a special page about the beach in Plentzia. You can find it on: http://www.beautiful-bilbao.com/plentzia...

  3. I recomend Barcelona, it have a lots of things to visit it have mountain, and beach! Also it have a lots of parties! I like that a lot! And you know if you like artis like miro, gaudi and all this monuments you can visits and parks... you can enjoy all this things in Barcelona but if you like calm peace I would recomend Asturias o cantabria that it have the atlantic ocean because is on the north of spain barcelona is more on the sud est of spain!

Hope you have a good time

  4. Wait i'll let you know later on june/july!

  5. Barcelona..... You´ll find everything you are looking for and also beautiful beaches........ Barcelona is very nice at nights, good weather, good restaurants along the harbors.......

  6. I suggest Los Montesinos or Torrevieja, in Costa Blanca.

It's great for tourism, great beaches, great entertainment in all different sorts of entertainment pubs (meaning all types of bars with different ages)

Torrevieja has more tourists but it has great beautiful beaches.

The 2 towns are both not pricey but torrevieja is much bigger than montesinos. They're both very close to each other (10mins) but montesinos is 10mins from the beaches.

Theres a local waterpark in Torrevieja! Great waterpark in Benidorm which is just under an hour away but everyone makes the trip, because it's worth it! Theres a great zoo in Elche which is under 30mins away on the motorway.

Los Montesinos is a beautiful spanish town, quite small, not too small.

Hope this helps, only the fact as other places are very very expensive during the summer, especially Marbella, but thats your choice.

    I hope this helps

  7. Marbella is very nice. Literally translated (Beautiful Sea). It is on the southwest coast of Spain and you can see the Rock of Gibraltar and Morocco from the beach. There are plenty of bars and nightlife but it's not totally out of control like Ibiza. It is for the older distinguished wealthy crowd but it is sprinkled with young adults which keeps it lively. When I was there I was 21 and I felt like my friends and I were younger than most of the other patrons. Mostly, I enjoyed lounging on the beach and having my hotel bar bring me drinks out there. Now that's living the life. It's generally very fun and beautiful "Bella," for any age of travellers. I totally recommend it!
