Best place to live in Lisbon?

My husband is currently looking for work in or around Lisbon - no saying he'll find anything but if he does we will need to relocate from the UK. We have two young children so we would need to be close to good schools (state schools are fine - my children are bilingual so no need for international schooling!) and obviously a nice, family friendly area would be important. We dont really know Lisbon so appreciate all answers. We are going over to Portugal in September to visit family in the north of the country so if anyone has any info on places to check out please do say so we can take a look while over there next month!

Ps. I've mentioned Lisbon as my husband will be focussing his job search within this area, however if anyone can recommend another nice town or city then go ahead! All feedback much appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

  1. all the country is nice but with children I would stay away from big cities like Lisbon. try the surrounding areas or the Algarve were most people speak english. I know some british couples that live in "Tomar" a small city about 80 miles (130 Km) northeast of Lisbon.

Portugal is a very nice country, good luck.
