  1. It is snowy in Colorado, they have many ski places.

  2. Snow at Christmas can be real iffy in most US ski areas. Seattle had a great season this year but the snow didn't start coming until the week after Christmas in good skiable amounts. The 2 week period around then is always booked solid so you must take your chances. Who ever has the snow at that time is going to get top dollar for lodging, but the Rockies are probably your best bet. When you book your space try to get a weather clause for lack of snow.

  3. I'm guessing by the wording of your question that you are more interested in finding someplace that has a winter wonderland feel about it moreso than a skier's paradise. I absolutely LOVE!! Alta and am sure that the skiing will be fantastic around christmas but I don't think that's the place you're looking for. Instead look into a resort like Silver Mtn in northern Idaho...there's more to do for the kids and the cost is much more realistic for a family on a budget. Another person mentioned that skiing in the Seattle area is iffy around christmas which is true for someone who wants just a ski experience....steep and deep, backcountry, etc. but Stevens Pass will certainly have enough skiable snow for a beginner to enjoy and the town of Leavenworth is really pretty around christmas. Tahoe is another great spot that will certainly have enough snow for your purposes and can also be done on a budget. Heavenly Village would be my choice if I were in your position. Snow over chirstmas is pretty much a given, lot's of things for the kids to do(skiing/skating etc) and even more stuff for Mom and Dad to do(casinoes/restaurants/ nightclubs) and I'd also recommend going for a sleighride...there's a guy next to Ceasars palace that gives horsedrawn sleighride tours. The best part is it's easy to get to South Lake Tahoe and the roomrates are much more reasonably priced than most ski resorts.

Now if you want to stretch that budget(or rob a bank or take out a second mortgage) I'd highly suggest Whistler BC, Steamboat CO or Big Sky Resort in Mt. All three of these places would be a great place to spend the christmas holidays but neither can be done on the cheap

  4. any where in the serria nevadas

  5. Vail and Beaver Creek are where I went in Colorado as a child. Easy slopes. Ski schools. Anywhere out there is good.  I am not sure about pricing but it is worth it.

Salt Lake City, Utah is 2nd.

  6. Alta or snowbird are good resorts, they have beginner runs and there will be snow.  Beware of blizzards though, those are nasty, the snow stings your face, not good for young kids.

  7. Steamboat Springs Colorado. No questions asked. Its probablly one of the most Friendly and Funnest places to ski. Thats why I live there :D
