Question:

Best place to start for learning embroidery?

I've collected vintage embroidery pieces for years. I love it.

My daughter has an upcoming surgery in August, and I'd love a basic project to keep me busy during her hospital stay. I'll be spending a lot of time just sitting with her, so I thought this would be good.

Where should I start? What's a good beginner project? I've cross stitched before, but that's about it.

I want a smaller, basic stitch kind of a project.

  1. start looking at online stores, like Michaels, joanns, walmart ect... they might have start up kits. you might try your local libarary as well they could have books on this. i have done machine embroidery not ones by hand. check online actions and searches as well. hope all goes well with you daughter.

  2. If you are a beginner try a Klutz book. They have great step by step photos.

Get books from your library that show all the different embroidery stitches.

There are pre-printed projects too. Like napkins and pillowcases. These are getting harder to find. Try Wal Mart and craft stores.

  3. Any Art's and Craft store can Get you started and they will also Show you what is best to Start With, my mother always did it when we used to travel. I hope you have fun and I hope your Daughter does well.

  4. Work in a sweatshop :)

  5. There are many kits available either online or in craft stores.  For a first project I would recommend them.  Buying the supplies individually can get expensive, so it's always best to start small and see if you enjoy it first.

  6. Whoa! You will need a laptop not something productive! My god woman what is wrong with you?! Maybe Nat will lend you hers?

I have seen beginner packs at wal mart I think they come with instructions and stuff...?

Good luck to your daughter I hope all goes well and she is in my prayers:)
