I'm looking to buy a boat, possibly a sail boat but more likely a motor boat, for personal use. I'd like to know about how to start looking? websites, etc.?

  1. http://www.best-ships.com

  2. Go to www.craigslist.org and click the state you live in, then it will list different cities in that state. Click on the city, then when the main screen comes back up, click "boats" and you should get a list of what's for sale close to you. Or you can also try ebay, or my website.

    Good luck,

    Tom

    www.cheapoldboats.com

  3. Try the Harbormaster Office.  Inquire for auctions of vessels

found abandoned, in custody for outstanding port debt, or

other issues.  When people depart one life for another sometimes expensive toys can be had for cost of a song.

Last year at my port an auctioned ferry boat valued at 3.5

million dollars was sold to the sole bid recieved of $45,000.

  4. craigslist.COM

  5. craigslist.org

  6. Boat shows are a good place to see all types in one place.

Lits of dealers represented & there can be good package deals on new boats  & new  leftovers from previous year.

I visited marinas to see whats out there for used boats being privately sold.

Websites are OK for general information ,but seeing in person is best for buying.

Some charitable organizations sell donated boats at good prices also.

W/ high gas pricess, sailboats give a better bang for the buck

esp if sailing is good in your area..

    Best regards

  8. I’d recommend you first firm up you requirements in terms of use, propulsion, size, cost, new or used, etc.  Then visit the web or boating magazines to see what’s close to what you want.  If you have friends who are experienced boat owners, tap their knowledge and opinions.

  9. Found my boat on Ebay . got a real bargain. Only do c.o.d.  and go for a test run first naturally.

  10. There is a lot of good website about new and used watercraft.

I can recommend you YachtCouncil - it looks pretty and i like design a lot. It has simple boat search as well as sophisticated one.

  11. A Boat Store

  12. Boat Trader   7-11 sells them
