Question:

Best places for glasses / eye exam without insurance?

I have no vision insurance and would like suggestions for a place to get a cheap (but good) eye exam and glasses/contact. Any recommendations. I have no major problems. Last time I went to Walmart and they seemed they hardly spent any time with me - I want to make sure I'm getting the correct prescription!

Thanks

  1. Many Wal-Mart and Target stores have Optometry services.  America's Best is also very affordable.

  2. You can have a cheap exam OR you can have a good exam, you rarely get both.  Like everything else, you get what you pay for.  They hardly spent any time with you at Walmart because they favor quantity over quality.  That's how all those places operate.

  3. Costco Optical is the cheapest by far (in the Seattle area, at least). You don't even have to have a Costco membership to go, either. However, in my experience they don't always have the cheapest prices on contacts, but with a valid prescription you can go to an online, mail order pharmacy. (Try googling "contact lenses lowest price.")

I am not sure about glasses. All I know is, IMHO, your chances of finding stylish frames at Costco aren't that good. Cost-wise, I dunno. You get what you pay for, unlike contacts, where you can usually shop around.
