Question:

Best places for vegetarian to eat in central London?

I'm in London all of this week, staying near Aldgate East tube station. I'm a vegetarian, and do love a veggie curry!

I am right next to Brick Lane, but after a walk there this evening I didn't feel that welcome. I'm on my own, and many of the Indian restaurants were empty apart from 7 or so staff all hanging around.

So I went to Pizza Hut instead! I like Indian, Pizza, Pasta, as long as it's all vegetarian friendly.

Any ideas for the rest of the week would be very welcome!!

  3. by train to tottenham court road station walk up tottenham rd on left side first small road turn left follow your nose to best vege indian restauratn in GB.popa sorry cant rember the name senior gap.

  4. I'd second the suggestion for the curry places on Drummond Street - they are amazing and all veggie! The place that Popa is trying to remember is Govinda's just by Soho Square, and again it is really excellent. There are lots of Vietnamese places on Kingsland Road, near the top end of Brick Lane which are famously great, the one I can remember off the top of my head is Aulac. There's a pub opposite Liverpool Street called Woodin's Shades which does THE BEST veggie sausage and mash EVER!! If you fancy that... Have fun! Hx

  5. i think theres a zoo which lets you feed the rabbits. maybe they could let you share their food

  6. I understand the not wanting to eat on your own in Brick Lane (I work around there) but I have some suggestions.

Cafe Naz (2 branches, Express is quick and easy, the other one is more of a sit down restaurant) is always excellent and usually has people in it.

Kasturi (opposite Aldgate tube station) has always been very good in the past.

If you don't mind walking a little further, Tayab on Fieldgate St (closer to Whitechapel) is one of the best Pakistani restaurants in London (as long as you like spicy) and is always busy-so don't take it personally if you feel a little rushed, its just that they probably have loads of people waiting!

If you want to go a little further afield, Drummond St (on the north side of Euston station) is all South Indian which, as you probably know, is predominantly vegetarian so you can't go wrong.

If you would be interested in trying something else, Wahaca in Covent Garden (Chandos St) has enough Mexican veggie for my veggie friend (I am not vegetarian, I am simply recommending restuarants that I like that I know have a decent selection). And has the added bonus of being owned by a previous winner of Masterchef......And it doesn't cost a fortune either.

You can find all the details of these restaurants, as well as masses of others, on  the website I have listed below.

    Have a good trip!
