  1. If you are prepared to work in Australia (fruit picking, bar work, casual work) then check out www.tntdownunder.com (TNT Magazine online) which is designed for travellers to Australia. Also look at WWOOF which stands for Willing Workers on Farms...free accommodation in return for farm work around the country.

  2. Before you start thinking of working in Australia, start thinking of getting a work visa. The "young persons working holiday visa" is available to those aged 18-30 and is valid for just over one year, but can be extended.

Start at the following very informative government site,

    http://www.immi.gov.au

Once you've had a look there, then start new searches for things like "backpacking" in a search refined to Australia. there is a vast number of those sites.

  3. get a warm sleeping bag and a two man tent - lots of great van parks where camp site with amenities no electricity will cost about $6 - $12 a night. You can camp at national parks etc for a few dollars.

Invest in some camping stuff - a fry pan and a pot. You can make great meals like beans and noodles. There are always gas BBQs taht are mosty free.

Ok so if yuo arrive in the winter you will find a lot of the snow fields have work like making beds, bar work, cooking etc. In the summer a lot of holidays spots that get a lot of tourists like the Mornington Peninsula Victoria there holiday season is October to April. Work in restraunts, bars, waitressing, vynyards, hotels and resorts.

  4. India. Cheapest country I have ever backpacking, beautiful country and lots to see and do.

No idea about jobs - basically none for westerners really unless you were to stay for a long time in one of the bigger cities but I wouldn't recommend that.

Go to Goa, and Hampi and Kerala and Pondicherry on the East coast, and the Taj Mahal.
