Question:

Best places to go in New Zealand for two young, adventure loving females.. ?

I'm going with a friend of mine (we're both females just under 20) to New Zealand sometime between July/Aug.

We could go to the Nth Island, but I'm really only looking at the Sth Island.

I've been to both islands. In the Nth I've been to Taupo, Rotorua, Auckland and the Bay of Islands.

In the South Island I've been to Christchurch, Greymouth, Twizel, Milford Sound, Te Anau, Lake Tekapo, Franz Josef, Mt Cook, Wanaka and Queenstown.. er, I think that's it.

I really want to go to Queenstown to ski for a week (or maybe 5 days, something like that), and want to go back to Tekapo and Franz Josef for at least a day each.

We're both adventure lovers, and we're both photographers so we'd love to go somewhere REALLY picturesque, though I guess you could say it all is... Help? We're both young, so it can't be super boring.

I was thinking Moeraki, Dunedin and the Catlins seem interesting. Open to both Nth and Sth - have to be BEAUTIFUL and interesting places. Any fun activities too?

  1. You could also go to Hamner- they have awsome hot pools and walks etc. You can also go bungy jumping in Hamner and Jet boating

Also everywhere other people have mentioned. Queenstown is fun, but it is a touristy city so it is quite expensive but worth it. You can also bungy in Queenstown too!

  2. You have missed out on the most scenic areas - Nelson, Abel Tasman, Golden Bay and the Marlborough Sounds!

Great beaches, vineyards, and alot of outdoor adventure! (All top of the South Island, and the region receives more than 2400 hours of sunshine a year and consistently rates as New Zealand's sunniest spot)

If you are in the North, take the ferry across to Picton - here you will travel through some of the Marlborough Sounds - so gorgeous on a calm sunny day!  Ferry - http://www.interislander.co.nz

Main website for Nelson is http://nelsonnz.com  Look at the photos…. has links to adventure, accommodation etc.

One place is Happy Valley - I had the best day of my life there with some mates from America. http://happyvalleyadventures.co.nz

On one side of Nelson you have Abel Tasman http://www.abeltasman.co.nz  and Golden Bay, http://www.goldenbay.net.nz/en/guide.htm... and the other side Marlborough.http://www.destination.co.nz/marlborough - everything is not far away if wanting a change of scenery.

Don’t miss walking the Abel Tasman track, (easy few hours) or  kayak down there or even water taxi.  Swim with the seals.

Stay at http://www.awaroalodge.co.nz at the end of the track  - alot of young backpackers there - Gorgeous place . . .and must see to really experience NZ!!! http://www.abeltasmaninformation.co.nz

    Sea kayaking - http://www.seakayaking.co.nz and

    Have a great trip

  3. You have to go no further than your bed, silly.

  4. have you been to the hot pools there... gorgeous i believe and i imagine like nothing you have seen in the way of natural wonders!

  5. This may not be helpful for the adventure but great wildlife photo opportunities. Check this http://www.naturescapes.net/082005/dc080...

  6. go to Christchurch and rent a car and go on a roadie around the south island
