Best places to learn merengue in the Dominican Republic?

Question

I want to take merengue lessons while visiting the DR. I plan to do a mostly beach-hopping visit. I hope to spend time in the beach towns east of Sosua, on the north-side of peninsula de Samana, and to spend a little time in the southeast to visit the islands. If you have any advice about these places too, that'd be helpful!

I am also thinking of going rafting on the Rio Yaque del Norte, is it any good?

Also, based on what I plan to do, is it best to fly into Santo Domingo or Puerta Plata?

clubs in Santo Domingo!  or Puerto Plata at some resorts.. if you want to learn the 'gringo' way lol.. omigosh Sosua and Samana are beautiful! If I were you I would fly into Santo Domingo.. DEFINITLEY a cultural experience! It is the capital city, the Heart of the country... a drive through there would be nice.. you will see a lot of natives... but if you dnt want to spend a few hours driving north to Samana, fly in to Puerto Plata. North is a little bit more touristy... like beaches and resorts... OOOH!! check out Boca Chica!!!! it is  near santo domingo... it is beautiful beach with clear water... snorkeling there is amazing.. try not to go on the weekend though as it gets pretty crowded...

Best place to learn merengue is "Los Altos de Chavon".  They have a nice dance floor to learn at.

To do this  program fly to Puerto Plata.

Alto de Chavon is at the other side of the Island ( La Romana)

and is not a dance floor....
