Question:

Best places to look for a creative job?

I currently work in a dry as dust finance job - 9 to 5 at my desk nothing creative or interesting or even people facing about it.

I want to move into a role that challenges me creatively. I'm quite artistic, have recently published a picture/photo book which has recieved quite a bit of positive feedback. I'm really outgoing and friendly, and prefer working in a group environment - bouncing ideas off people. I have a great sense of fashion ans style and am really good at presenting and presentations. I have to confess that my job at the moment doesn't allow any of this :-(

My current salary is in the 35k range - and i can't really afford to drop too much below that (30k is probably as low as i can go).

Does anyone have any suggestions on places to look for work? I have tried the guardian, mediajobs & Broadcast now - but nothing so far.

  1. From your description of your skills, you sound like a prime candidate to work in advertising. An eye for the arts goes a long way in said field, as does the ability to present creative ideas. Your background in accounting will help you with the numbers-game of the advertising world, so that, too, will strengthen your case for potential employers. One draw back is the office environment in advertising tends to to get quite competitive, therefor limiting the sharing of ideas, but if you find the right group of people to work with you can have plenty of opportunities to bounce ideas off others.

  2. Go to the Houses of Parliament! They say a lot of creative accounting with the  MPs travelling expenses goes on there!!

  3. become a free lance photographer or wedding planner

  4. Realistically speaking, you're as well to stick to your current job and just continue doing your thing on the side.

As for looking for work with the organisations you have named - so are all those arts graduates and post-graduates. The best thing to do is simply continue with what you are doing, and when you have something that people turn to look at a second time, then you have something to really push with those organisations.

Either that, or you can look into moving sideways or upwards into something more creative in your current job.
