Best places to meet people summer time NYC?

I'm from Connecticut and want to spend more time in New York City this summer. I prefer the older crowd, 25-35 would be great. Any suggestions as to where to go to meet smart and interesting women would be really helpful :-)

  1. The Beer Garden in Astoria is great!!!

  2. My first thought was the Central Park Zoo.

But I'm  a wee bit older than 35. OK. A lot older.

  3. I agree with the person above me - the Beer Garden in Astoria is full of friendly people.  You're forced to share tables with strangers as the seating areas quickly become scarce - therefore starting conversations with people you might otherwise not approach.  Buuut the people here might be too young/frat party-like.

I spent a lot of time in Sheep Meadow in Central Park this past summer and I made a few friends.  Everyone here is also pretty friendly and always playing sports, which - if you have the guts - you can ask to join.  I have a dog though, so people approached me to pet her, and from there we spoke.  Good luck!  I know I need it!

  4. Central Park has music events in the summer.  It's fun to go with a blanket, picnic food, & wine.  Happy hours on Thursdays & Fridays in NYC are awesome... check out bars on the east side (anywhere from 45th to 53rd street) - there's so many people & you're bound to meet some people.  Also, nice warm weather so treasured in NYC & people flock to bars with outdoor seating... try the bar at Bryant Park for example.  There are also many trendy bars & restaurants in the SOHO & village you should try out!  Hope the info helps & hope you have fun!!!!  =]

  5. Rockefeller Plaza has an outdoor restaurant in the skating rink.  Sometimes they have live music. A nice place to meet on a warm summers night.

  6. Central Park is always a great place to meet people - hang out in Sheep's Meadow or by the Great Lawn.

I like the 79th Street Boat Basin Cafe - a great setting in the summer to have food/drinks with friends and meet new people.

Sit at some of the nice sidewalk spots on the Upper East & West Sides - you can walk up/down 2nd Avenue or Amsterdam Avenue and find the spot that looks best to you.

The Sculpture Garden at the Museum of Modern Art is always a nice place to find smart people.  You might also want to check out the Bryant Park Movie Night (free) on Monday nights, Shakespeare in the Park (free), the Philharmonic in Central Park (free!) and the movie nights on the West Side (free!!).  Check Time Out New York for dates/times.

Avoid the Meatpacking District and Lower East Side - it is too young and too trashy...not quality people.
