Best places to pet a dog?

What would be good places to pet a dog? I know the belly, but where else?

Right above the tail.  My little guy loves it, he raises his head high like "Ahhhhhh!"

Behind the ears, under the chin, some like along the back while others find it unnatural and might snap.....

well my dog loves the belly and behind the ears shes a  little puppy tho and all dogs are different i no 1 of my freinds dogs they hate the belly

so it really depends on the dog that ur petting just kinda expirment with differnt spots

with mydog we found out the belly and behind her ears becasue when ever we'd scratch her there shell close her eyes and she could fall asleep  thats how we get her to calm down! lol

My dog loves when I rub him under his neck on his chest between his front legs.

Do you know this dog? If so, most places are pretty good. Generally not the feet, or the muzzle. Most dogs I know like their front arm pits and up in to their chest bone rubbed. Those get itchy a whole lot.

If it is a dog you don't know, but are given permission to rub the dog, go with the side front shoulder area. Not over it's head. That can be seen more as a challenge to the dog. The same chest area usually works pretty well for me with strangers dogs that I meet, too. Again, a lot of dogs get really itchy there around their armpits.

my dog loves it behind her ears; most dogs with floppy ears like that. also under the chin, on the back, and on the chest; if you don't know the dog, chin and chest, because some dogs panic and possibly bite when your hands go where the dog can't see them.
