Best plants or shrubs for my back yard?

At the rear of our property we have a corner that was never landscaped and is backed by tall grass and weeds. I would like to make it look nice with a few plants or shrubs and mulch. There already is a lilac bush I would like to keep. The area is about 4x6 feet. What would you suggest we plant? We live in SE PA. Thanks!

  1. If you want low maintenance then I would go with a Rhododenron or an Azalea. They dont loose there leaves and they will add some spectacualr colour in the spring. Will look great with your lilac as well.

  2. just go to your local home depot or lowe's store and get a few of your favorite.  keep the taller at maturity one's towards the back and shorter one's to the front.  it's always pretty to have dark green, light green, red, yellow and sometimes pinkish to splash that color that everyone loves to see all year.  sometimes the blues [spruce varity] adds to the interest.  later you can expand it and add some hosta and annuals for spring, summer, then fall blooming.  great fun....enjoy!
