Best player not in Hall Of Fame

In my humble opinion, it's between Derrick Thomas and Cris Carter.

Carter was an 8 time pro bowler, finished second behind Jerry Rice for most receptions and TD's and was a memer of the 1990's All Decade Team.

Thomas was a 9 time pro bowler in his ten year career, notching up 126 sacks, All Decade and rookie of the year honours and holds the record for most sacks in one game with 7.

The fact that neither of these guys went in with a first ballot is astonishing.

What do you guys think? Any other suggestions are also welcome.

  1. Brett Farve. Hes a great quarterback but acts like a diva

  2. Richard Dent. The Colonel should be in already. If he doesn't go in the next two years, there should be an investigation.

  3. I agree, Carter & Thomas should be there.

The 'reason' they gave for Carter not going in on the 1st ballot was because they supposedly had 'too many WR going in at one time' (bull).

Michael Irvin in before Cris Carter? Please!!

Ken Stabler and L.C. Greenwood are ones who should be in also.

  4. andre reed and chris carter. but i think ray guy should be there  in there but not many  writers will agree with me. i think carter and thomas are going in next year. but writers dont vote for them first ballot because they think first ballot players should be marino/rice/emitt smith- caliber

  5. Otis Taylor of the KC Chiefs. Check his career numbers and impact on the games in which he played.  Of course Derrick Thomas should already be in. It doesn't help that both of them played in a relatively small market in the Midwest.

  6. IMHO - Bob Hayes of the Dallas Cowboys.

Below is a note taken from Wikepedia regarding Bob Hayes...keep in mind that 'Zone Defense' didn't exist before "Bullet" Bob Hayes...

I figure if one player caused the entire NFL to change how it plays defense because they couldn't be stopped, then they should be a 1st Ballot HOF Member.

The Anti-Cowboys Bias is clearly a factor here, as well as some off-field issues with Hayes...however with the likes of LT and Irvin being elected to the Hall, then there is no longer a reason to keep Bob Hayes out.

Let's not forget that Hayes is also the Cowboys Leader in Receiving TD's...

    Enjoy the read below.

So with all due respect to other greats who have been bipassed to the Hall...Bob Hayes is clearly the #1 on the list of players who deserves to be in Hall!!!

    ______________________________________...

In 1964 the Dallas Cowboys drafted him in the seventh round, taking a chance an Olympic sprinter with unrefined football skills could excel as a wide receiver. The bet paid off, due to his amazing feats as a receiver, Hayes has been credited by many with forcing the way the rest of the NFL conducted pass defense. (see zone defense below) His first two seasons were most successful, during which he led the NFL both times in receiving touchdowns.

In 1966 when the Cowboys played at Washington, Hayes caught 9 passes for 246 yards. Earlier that same season he caught 6 passes for 195 yards against the Giants at the Cotton Bowl. Hayes' speed forced other teams to develop the zone defense since no single player could keep up with him. By spreading the defense out in order to contain Hayes, it allowed the Cowboys running game, with players like Don Perkins, Calvin Hill, Walt Garrison and Duane Thomas to flourish. Hayes returned punts for the Cowboys and was the NFL's leading punt returner in 1968 with a 20.8 yards per return average and 2 touchdowns including a 90 yarder against Pittsburgh. He was named to the Pro Bowl three times and All Pro four times. He helped Dallas win 5 Eastern Conference titles, 2 NFC titles, played in two Super Bowls, and was instrumental in Dallas' first ever Super Bowl victory in 1971, making Hayes the only person so far to win both an Olympic gold medal and a Super Bowl ring

  7. i think brandon marshel is going to be a great player this year mabe not hall of fame materiel but definetly fantasy football first round draft pick no doubt in my mind how about you

  8. I definitely agree with you, i dont get how Thomas isn't in with his amazing stats

  9. Charles Haley.

  10. Derrick Thomas was a class player and his seven sack single-game performance was an amazing show of his skill at the linebacker position.

Steve Atwater (I don't think he's elligible right now) and Aeneas Williams come to mind.

Also, Ray Guy needs to be in the HoF...he really ashowed the importance of a punter.

  11. Ray Guy-best punter ever (at least until Andy Lee retires). He led the league in punting three seasons in a row.

  12. I think that the best player not in the hall is Jerry Kramer. I was influenced a little bit by the guys at NFL Network, but ultimately, there was one reason. Vince Lombardi, greatest coach of all time called him "The greatest player I ever coached". Nuff said.

  13. Cris Carter should've been a 1st ballot HOF-er as well as DerriCK Thomas. Tim Brown should be in the HOF but I don't know if he's eligible yet. Ken Stabler is also well overdue.
