Best player of the 2012 season - Tennis Special
Over the past many years, there have not been much close seasons in Tennis, as one of the players has managed to dominate from the start until the end.
Roger Federer from Switzerland enjoyed a very dominating run for a long time and remained number one for a record number of weeks. However, he was not getting any younger with time and started to lose the grip on his game to some
extent.
This shifted the authority to Rafael Nadal, who failed to deliver the expected results with consistency and suffered with injuries as well. This gave an opportunity to someone like Novak Djokovic, who is currently ranked number
one in the sport.
Then there are some other decent players like Andy Murray and Juan Martin Del Potro, who keep on pressuring the top ranked individuals.
All in all, the fans have been lucky to witness some greats of the game, battling against each other in one era. They have all proved their mettle at the highest level and have delivered some memorable performances during the 2012
season.
Due to this, it is not easy to judge whether who was the best player of the recently concluded season. It could have been Nadal, as he was looking strong at the start of the year and gave some decent performances.
He made it to the final of the Australian Open, but lost after a close battle against Djokovic. The pair once again met in a championship decider Roland Garros match, where the Spaniard prevailed in the end.
However, Nadal was knocked out in the second round of Wimbledon and has not been taking part in any tournaments since then. Therefore, he cannot be considered as the player of the year.
Federer, on the other hand, had a much better season. He took the number one spot after winning the Wimbledon and enjoyed some very good battles against his rivals. However, he was not consistent enough to be named as player of
the year.
One player, who delivered top class results with consistency was, Djokovic. He qualified for the finals of three Grand Slams and managed to succeed in one of them. Moreover, he reclaimed the top spot and ended the season on a high.
Therefore, the Serbian holds and edge over his experienced rivals and he can easily be tagged as the best player of the 2012 season.
