Question:

Best protein supplement in my case?

I tried posting a variation of this yesterday and I didn't really get the answers I wanted so here it goes again. I'm joining the Marines and I go off to boot camp November 10. Right now I am just training to get a perfect score on my Marine Corps Physical Fitness Test which includes being able to do 20 dead-hang pull ups, 100+ crunches in under 2 minutes and a 3-mile run in 18:00 or less.

What I am doing for training right now is just running every day, doing Pyramid pull-ups to ensure I get over 20, push-ups (with my perfect push-up of course ;]) and crunches. During m training I want to make sure that i recover fast and get the most out of my workout, while not putting on a lot of excess weight that will hinder my progress. I plan on using protein supplements but I am not entirely sure on which ones and when to take them. At the moment I'm thinking about going with Nitro-Tech HARDCORE before my workout and then afterwards, as well as taking Muscle Milk right before I go down for the night. Any and all help/suggestions are welcomed. Thanks in advance!

  1. 1.  Use a straight whey protein powder - Optimum Nutrition's Gold Standard is one of the top brands.  As long as you have eaten a good protein source with 2-3 hours of your workout, don't worry about a preworkout shake as much.  You will need to feed yourself with about 40g of slow burning carbs (complex or natural) about 30 prior to working out.  Save your protein shake for postworkout with either 40g of fast burning carbs or a 32oz sports drink.

    2.  Take 5g of creatine either before or after - use it thru the first week of October and then come off of it as your body is going to start to plateau with the creatine effects.  You are just maintaining an elevated supply of creatine in your body with this as your body already has ~1.6g -1.8g per pound of body weight.

    3.  Switch to a straight casein protein at bedtime.  This is a slow digesting protein and you don't need to have anything other than this to feed your muscles thru the night as your growth hormones spike.

One of the problems with the NT Hardcore product is that you are getting the whey protein but the creatine is mixed in with an amino complex in which the total of this is just over 3g.  You don't know how much of the creatine you are getting with this product as it could be any where from 3g to less than 0.1g.

Filter thru the advise you get as you are not in a mass building program currently and training is very specific to you goal.

    Good luck!!

  2. WELL YOU CAN GO TO THE WEBSITE WWW.GNC.COM AND SEE THERE SUPPLEMENTS. TRY TO GET A PROTEIN SUPPLEMENT AND A CREATINE SUPPLEMENT TO RECOVER FASTER AND GET MORE ENDURANCE AND POWER.

  3. Just take whey to get lean...

    Much respect brother......USMC

    Good Luck!!

  4. Do plain whey protein, not stuff mixed. Add it to fatfree milk & fruit for flavor & carbs.

  5. the best protein is 100% optimum whey protein, it has the highest protein by weight (most pure protein on the market)...so with every cup you get more protein

its the #1 best selling product on bodybuilding.com

just a tip, whey protein absorbs very quickly, so its best to use it right after a workout, it will go straight to the muscles and start building them up, do not use it before you go to bed or when you wake up because its a fast-acting protein, and it wont last long, use casein protein in the morning and before you go to bed because it lasts 6 hours and will continue to build up your muscles while you sleep

  6. erm before workout i'd take N.O. xplode  this is excellent product

then after and during day bsn Syntha6 and creatine too before bed though take micellar casein protein

this is what i would recommend

  7. You get plenty of protein in a normal balanced diet.

If you were doing high level body building, there might be a case for supplements, but you're not doing anything close to that.
