  1. the best racehorse for the last 20 years was trained in England and was a horse  called dancing brave. although he was foaled in the united states. he won both his 2 starts as a 2 year old and opened his 3 year old career with3 straight wins including the two thousand guineas a classic race for 3 year old colts. he then went on to run in the derby another classic race probably the most famous flat race in the world there was some concerns over the distance of one and a half miles so his jockey Greville Starkey held him up in last place he came with a blistering late run on the outside 2 furlongs out and just failed to catch the winner sharastani by half a length. his jockey was later criticized for giving him to much to do. but the owners kept faith in the jockey for his next run the eclipse stakes at sandown which he won however greville Starkey was unable to ride him in the king George and was replaced by pat eddery he won that race to .pat eddery was the prefered jockey for what was probably dancing braves best race in the arc de triomphe in France he won in record time spread eagling a high class field and getting revenge on his derby concorer shahrastani. however dancing braves racing career was to end on a sour note at santa anita park in the breeders cup turf when coming to win the race with his trade mark late run he jumped a shadow on the ground and in my opinion it cost him the race he went on to become a succesful sire before his untimely death in 1999 he sired a derby winner himself by the name of commander in chief .dancing brave was a truley magnificent racehorse and in my opinion he must go down in history as one of the all time best racehorses.

  2. 1986 Cox plate, people still talk about it. Best racehorse? Octagonal, the people's champion

  3. Point Given has as much talent as all the horses you guys named... if he ran till 4 or so would have set all sorts of records... so he is my vote.

  4. Cigar, Holy Bull, or John Henry

  5. I liked Ghostzapper but he wasnt at the top of his game long enough to make a lasting impression (was actually good for about a year, maybe 5 outings, I did however follow Cigar around and saw him race a number of times, including the grade 3 turf race at bay meadows as a 3 year old (he made the lead but got passed into third) before he got good on the dirt (being a Palace Music it was thought his future was on grass) a number of handicap races and was there at the pacific classic when he lost when caught up in the Mandella 1-2 punch that was Siphon, the speed merchant, and Dare and Go the monster closer with Solis aboard...he indeed fought a quarter crack (and it was well documented) but was game thru his last races, I was disappointed when he faded to 3rd in his last breeders cup classic north of the border...16 consecutive wins all over the dirt racing world, all comers, wet or dry surfaces, didnt carry his track around with him like many of todays horses do...

  6. I loved Holy Bull! He was pretty good! Silver Charm was pretty good on the Triple Crown trail and the Dubai World Cup! Cigar was amazing, too!!

  7. CIGAR would be the best.you don't win 16 races in a row by accident.Honorable mention to:Ghostzapper,Skipaway,Invasor and Silver Charm. On the distaff side how about Ouija Board and Secretariats' greatest daughter Lady's Secret.

  8. Not sure who the absolute best is but certainly my top 5 (flat horses) would be Dubai Millennium, Giant's Causeway, Montjeu, Persian Punch (for bravery if not his achievments) and Ouija Board.

Sorry - Rhonda, how the h**l can AP Indy be "out of Seattle Slew and Secretariat"?  They are both stallions!  ARGGHH!  How many times do I need to correct you people - a horse is BY a stallion and OUT OF a mare.  Therefore you should say that "AP Indy is by Seattle Slew, and out of a Secretariat mare". Sorry, rant over now.

  9. My choice would be AP Indy. .

He is out of Seattle Slew and Secretariat.

And has sired many stakes winners, including Rags to Riches.

  10. SEATTLE SLEW

  11. tiz now or Invasor

  12. Ghostzapper would win hands down on a list of the last 15 years for me.  But going back to 1987?  I can't rank him above Sunday Silence, Easy Goer and Alysheba.  Of those three I think he was most like Easy Goer - brilliantly fast, amazingly versatile and physically challenged (although EG's trainer was able to race his charge more than 4x year), whom I think was the most talented of the last 20 years.  I know he lost to Sunday Silence 3x, but his body of work from 2-4 is jaw-dropping compared to today's campaigns and he still managed to run fast times including a near world record mile at Aqueduct.

  13. Sunday Silence all the way. Multiple graded stakes winner, Derby winner, top sire in Japan. He's deceased, and is still topping the sire list in Japan.

I got to watch that great horse race, and loved every second of it!

  14. CIGAR took on all comers and traveled the world to meet them while battling a quarter crack the entire '96 campaign

  15. Cigar.   He had 16 straight wins at 9 different tracks, became the all-time leading money winner, grade one competition all the time.  Very impressive record.  I'm sure there might be a horse that ran faster at some distance over the past 20 years, but this was one impressive streak.
