  1. In Hawaii we call it saimin and S&S brand is The Best.  Your local mainland Asian markets, if they carry it, would have it in the freezer section as the noodles are not dehydrated, unlike all the packaged "ramen" stuff in the local grocery store aisles.

We usually eat ours with spam strips, some scrambled eggs (scramble one egg, fry it in the pan, but don't fluff it, keep it "flat" - remove from pan when cooked and slice to create strips), a dash of green onions for color and fish cake (the kamaboko, pink & white one in the Asian market) ... we also add shoyu ... best "broke da mouth" food you'll find!  Many local eateries also serve the saimin with grilled chicken skewers - really yummy!

As for the other stuff - Top Ramen, Maruchan, Ichiban, etc - they make some pretty good flavors.

We've always added much less water than what the package calls for - instead of getting 6 oz of soup, we'll have 2-3 oz of "gravy".  It intensifies the flavor and coats the noodles nicely.  It's kind of a trial and error deal ... boil the noodles in the 6-8 oz as instructed.  Add the cooked noodles to a bowl with 2 oz of the hot water and the seasoning pack.  Mix well - if you wish add more water maybe a Tbsp at a time.  Some seasoning packs are saltier than others and require 3 oz or more of the water to cut cut the salt, so like I said, trial and error.

    Blessings

  2. Mauchurian Beef, I lived on them for an entire year when I was eighteen.

  3. The absolute best was from a restaurant my wife and I had in Tenri City, Japan. Robust broth, with all the goodies.

It had the best unagi too.

  4. maruchan ramen cuz its 13 cents a pack

  5. Maruchan is the best brand I had, I've tried a lot of them. I like the beef because you can add other meats besides beef and it still tastes better!

  11. My fave is Ichiban brand  miso flavored ramen. Here is a link:

You can get more diverse brands of ramen at any Asian grocery store.

  12. Tastiest ramen: from Ichiban Ramen chain outlets in Hong Kong, Singapore. Sorry, don't fancy the C-I-Y packet/cup types.
