Best restaurant in Alexandria,VA?

Question

I'll be there next week for a few days and would like to try some typical American food - I'm from Italy, so pls don't suggest me any Italian Restaurants ;-)

In Alexandria stroll up and down King St.  Lots of fabulous places to eat there. You can't go wrong.  If you come into the district in Dupont Circle area there are some great places.  On P  West of the Circle is a great fusion place call Obelisk which serves a fixed menu.  Just south of the circle on N East of Connecticut is Tabard Inn, fabulous restaurant.  In Georgetown we like Mendocino which has a great wine list.  All are great examples of American fusion style.  

  In the Rossayln / Arlington area of VA, near Alexandria, is a place call Ray's Steaks.  Great steaks. Vary bare bones but good wine and great meat.
