Best route from Edinburgh to East Midlands Airport?

Hi, am travelling down by car this thursday. I am leaving at 4pm, just before the rush hour! I can go down the M6, or down the A1/M1. which will be best at this busy time ?? Thank you !!

I would agree with the previous answers except for one point.

Traffic on the A1 at Gateshead can get heavy in the peak period. (I know I live there),  You could consider using the A68 over Carter Bar and keep on it, joining the A1(M) at Darlington. (J58).  Also there is roadworks at Wetherby which may be cause a delay.
