  1. i just drove from Nevada to Alabama  i did i-40  no major stoppages

or traffic work, did most of my traveling during early morning hours from 1 am till mid afternoon as the heat is quite bad,

    hope this helps

  2. I would choose I40.  I-10 has long long stretches of nothingness and few places to rest.  I 40 may be boring, but there are more places to stop and get help if you need it.  Or do a combination, take I10 to NM or Texas then move up to I40.

I have driven both several times and I avoid I10 through most of texas.

  3. While I have no love for  I-10 it does have one big advantage over 1-40 >it's flat  and U-haul trucks are notorious for their inability to climb anything.

The last time I did the uphill run from Albuquerque to Santa Rosa NM in a U-haul truck my top speed was 25 mph

There is also the steep  uphill run from Ash  Fork AZ to Flagstaff to consider and the TN/GA I-40 to I-75 can be really three dimensional at times,

  4. Take I-10.  I-40 doesn't go to Florida.  Plus with a U-Haul, you'll definitely want the landscape to be as flat as possible.
