Best running backs of all time?

I'm just curious because there's a lot of debate on this. I think it should be something like this:

1: Barry Sanders

2: Jim Brown

3: Emmit Smith

4: Walter Payton

5: Eric Dickerson

6: Tony Dorsett

7: Gale Sanders

8: O.J Simpson

9: Bronko Nagurski

10: Ladainian Tomlinson

I know it's a bit early to say LT but everyone focuses on that he hasn't won a superbowl. HES not the Chargers. Football is a team sport, grow up please and just admit hes a very good back.

  1. 1. Walter Payton - hands down the no. 1

    2. Jim Brown

    3. Barry Sanders

    4. Emmit Smith

    5. Gayle Sanders

    6. O.J. Simpson

    7. Marshall Faulk

    8. Marcus Allen

    9. Earl Campell

    10. John Riggins

  2. 1) Bo Jackson. he didn't play long, but when he did defenses were shitting themselves. he was the fastest player in the game, and the strongest. ouch

    2) Barry Sanders. he would have all the records if he didnt get bored of dominating

    3) LaDanian Tomlinson: he's durable, and he's on pace to set the records

    4) Eric Dickerson: the prettiest looking running back, not in a g*y way

    5) Walter Payton: he never fell backwards when getting tackled

    6) Emmitt Smith: rushing record is his, but he is below these guys because he didnt have overwhelming power nor speed. he was a very good balance but not subperb. very durable and had great o-line in dallas

    7) Jim Brown - the best power back that crushed all defenders

    8) Christian Okoye- the nigerian nightmare posed a simliar problem to bo jackson. he was an absolute beast size-wise and was also pretty darn fast

    9) earl campbell: i dare you to try to tackle him. you need at least 3 guys

    10) marshall faulk: 1000-1000 season and he did it with more grace than craig. that was a pass happy offense called the greatest show on turf and still was able to be the best player on the team

  3. 1. Barry Sanders

    2. Walter Payton

    3. Eric Dickerson

    4. Earl Campbell

    5. Jim Brown

    6. Bo Jackson

    7. Marshall Faulk

    8. Terrell Davis

    9. LaDainian Tomlinson

    10. Thurman Thomas

  4. No. 1 has to be Cleveland Browns Jim Brown out of Syracuse he was what all Rb's in the league that followed him came to be just think if he had played longer in his career and could have added an easy 7000 more yards if he had played 4 more years in the league. After that i would have to say Emmit Smith because he is the Rb all time yardage leader them Barry Sanders right behind him.

  5. What did Gale Sayers really do? He had less than 5,000 rushing yards and played for like 7 seasons. Marcus Allen belongs in there and so does Marshall Faulk

  6. Your list is pretty solid.  Franco Harris might should be in that 10 spot in my opinion.  But its really a list thats hard to argue with

  7. I'm gonna say Jim Brown. Here's the reason. Back in the day, Jim Brown's offensive linemen were all white. (I'm not racist, but this is a fact and its in all the documentaries he has) Anyway, in that time period of racial divide, most of the time, if not all the time, his linemen would not block for him. Yet, Jim Brown still produced a lot of yards and touchdowns. Look at his stats 12,312 yards, 5.2 PER CARRY, 126 touchdowns: Imagine how much these numbers would increase if he had a line that was willing to block for him.

  8. I won't name anyone before the 80's because I never saw them during their day but, here are some of my favorites:

Bo Jackson - Quite possibly the most amazing athelete I've ever seen.

    Barry

    Sweetness

    Marcus Allen

    Dorsett

    Dickerson

And definately LT - although I'm a Raiders fan.

Notice I left of Emmit. Talk about overrated. Yea, I know about all of his stats but, any good RB with that line and QB could achieve all those mile stones.

  9. They have all been great players, but statistically by average yards per carry, I would go in this order. Yea I know it dependended on the offinsive line, and many other variables, this is how I would rate. I do have to agree with you since LT has had 8 years or so on putting him here, which is less NFL time than a couple of players listed. But I would have to list him on the bottom of the list to see how his carreer ends.

    1: Jim Brown (5.2 Yards)

    2: Barry Sanders (5.0 Yards)

    3: Gale Sanders (5.0 Yards)

    4: O.J Simpson (4.7 Yards)

    5: Bronko Nagurski (4.5 Yards)

    6: Walter Payton (4.4 Yards)

    7: Eric Dickerson (4.4 Yards)

    8: Tony Dorsett (4.3 Yards)

    9: Earl Campell (4.3 Yards)

    10: Marshal Falk (4.4 Yards)

    11: Emmit Smith (4.2 Yards)

    12: Marcus Allen (4.1 Yards)

    13: Ladainian Tomlinson (4.5 Yards)

    Whizzer White

OJ "the Wife Killing Bill" forfieted his right to be on this list by being a murderer. Ladainian is out because he's too big a baby and sat down for his teams most important game EVER. A real running back would have played if there was a BONE sticking out of his leg.

  13. Putting LT up there is like putting Adrian Peterson up there. Not saying hes not good, but no player should be on a all time list before retiring.

  14. 1) Barry Sanders

    2)John Riggins

    3)Ladanian Tomlinson

    4)Walter Payton

  21. Barry

    Jim Brown

    Sweetness

    Emmit

    OJ

    Dickerson

    Gale Sayers

    Earl Campbell

    Bo Jackson

    Thurman Thomas

LT will be on this list just not in the top 3. He is a stud but it looks as though the injury bug is going to get him!

  22. Its not earlly to put LT there he is going to be in the HOF... and your list is perfect... mabey Earl Cambell but not in the top 10... top 15 mabey but deffinetly top 20.... great list

  23. def Barry Sanders. then i would say Walter Payton.

  24. Brown- The real reason he's #1 is back when he played the hash marks were spread much further apart then today making it obvious which way you had to run the ball, yet J.B. still ran over the defense.

    Payton

    Emmitt

    Barry

    Earl Campbell

    Dorsett

    OJ

    Dickerson

    Riggins

    Marcus Allen

    nuff said
