I am looking for a sandy beach to spend a day, no more than an hour drive out of HRM. Any suggestions on the best beaches? I have heard Dollar Lake is really nice. Haligonians, I need your advice!

  1. Lawrencetown and Martinique to the east;

    Queensland and Hubbards to the west, 2 or 3 hours further along to Risser's south of Bridgewater, White Point near Liverpool and Lockeport (once on the $50 bill).

  2. Crystal Crescent Beach, East Pennant/Sambro- Hwy 306 or Hwy 349(preferred hwy) about 45 mins away this is a really nice beach area, there also is a clothing optional part further down the beach, but you will not see them unless you walk about 20 mins along the beach.

    Lawrencetown Beach,  Highway 207 approx 45 mins away. nice beach as well and a great place to watch the surfers if the waves are high,

    Martinique Beach Hwy 7 50 km east of Halifax between Petpeswick Inlet and Musquodoboit Harbour very nice sandy beach!

    Point Pleasant Park in Halifax does have a beach area, but I just have a hard time with the clean water now thing....so I would not go there if you want to take a dip, I know they say its cleaned up but after so many years of it being unusable its hard to get over that!

  3. not Haligonian but heard recently the harbour is now so clean with the new waste treatment that you can swim right there?
