Tom Tom One is OK but will only have UK mapping. European mapping will cost you upto £70 to upgrade.

Go to Halfords, they've got special offers on satnavs at the moment and they will give you an in-car demo if you want one. I've just bought the Tom Tom One XL with Europe mapping and upgraded to Traffic (extra) and still paid far less than the basic version  at  Argos prices. Go on to Halfords website and look at their prices. You can order on-line and pick up at the nearest store. I've just checked my receipt and for the Tom Tom XL with Traffic and Europe I paid £179.99. The same model and features in Argos costs £229.99 - an extra £40.00

I paid £800 for a Navman some years ago.  It malfunctioned within the guarantee period - they tried to sell me another costing a further £200, then after months of waiting for a repair, they sent one made up of to second hand halfs from other broken units.  So I don't recommend their Navman customer service!
