Question:

Best saw to use for building a shed?

I have a 7-1/4 circular saw that isn't all so powerful. I'm thinking about getting a miter saw to use instead. I'm thinking it'll let me make faster, smoother cuts when building the structure's frame as well as making angle cuts easier when it comes to doing trim. I've never owned a miter saw, so does this sound like a good use for it (or is it really only for trim work and not so good for 2x4/2x6 sawing)?

  1. absolutly get the miter saw.  even a sliding compound miter saw.  it's definitly going to make the job easier especially on 45deg. cuts

  2. I built my shed with just a standard 7 1/4 inch circular saw.

You are only going to be cutting angles at 90 45 and 30 and unless you are building something elaborate or a lean too coming off a house there will be no compound miters to make.

All you need is a circular saw, Hand saw , small square and a framing square. The rest is skill you will acquire as you built.

  3. Buy a new blade for your circular saw, also buy a 26"  14TPI arnstrong  crosscut for general use. Much cheaper than a miter saw and much more versatile. Also the armstrong is safer than the other 2.

  4. You should first learn how to use one by asking for lessons from a skilled person. I expect you have a dull blade. A skillsaw would work fine but it is also more dangerous for an unskilled operator.  The power miter saw is safer because the board is held tight with one hand and the other is at the switch. Keep fingers at least 4 inches away from cut at all times.

  5. Most saws are universal so it depends on what you want. A miter saw will work but a compound miter would be better. A table saw will also do a fine job or even a radial arm saw. Just be careful if you want to cut the siding it is a concrete material and it will ruin your saw blade. Have fun.

  6. more for triming. use a 7 1/4 circular saw.
