Best scooter/ moped for college?

I want to get a scooter for short trips around college and i was looking to spend around $1000. I have seen a couple and i live in california so that narrows down my options. I wanted 150cc cause i dont want to be run off the road for going to slow and i want more power. Would used be a good option? is there a physical store where i can see one instead of just a picture online?

You are right to be thinking about a 150 over a 50cc scooter. In California you will have to be licensed either way and 50cc isn't enough power for the way folks drive here.

Tanks do not have a great reputation. Are you comfortable with scooter mechanics? Can you fix things yourself? If not you need find a scooter with dealer support.

Yes, there are quite a few scooter stores but California is a big state so no use me telling you about one in SD if you are in

Davis.

You can no doubt find a cheap scooter for 1000.  But they will cost you nothing but maintenance $$ and headaches.

There's a reason why big companies charge more and still stay in business.  Stick with Yamaha, Honda, etc.  They will give you years of worry free riding.  

Go to any motorcycle dealers and they will also have scooters.

150cc requires motorcycle license.  When you are ready to sell it, it will also limit the buyer to people who have motorcycle license (most of whom will NOT ever touch a scooter).  Meaning you won't be able to sell it.

Tanks are not good scooters, The best out there now is a Kymco then Derbi or Buddy, Stella. It will be more than a grand. Those real cheap one are not lasting long enough in some cases to get home. Kymco is the highest rated scooter in the world behind only Piaggio and Vespa and ahead of all the j*p scooters. You might watch for a used one and try ebay. Another good brand I have been hearing about but I have not had any experence with is  Eagle Power Sports. I have heard good things about them. Kymco is 50 state legal.

forget it, 1000 bucks , isnt going to buy scooter, ..unless you find it used. 1500 will., and theres plenty to choose from .

i did extensive looking and comparing on many models. i bought the yamaha c 3 AND LOVE IT....120 plus mpg..and LOTS of storage space for books, blanket, whatever you want. The storage, low maintenance and wide tires and comfort is what sold me.

go to your local motorcycle shop, look there, they have them all over, though right now, they are selling out before they get to store ,...many brands are backed up until sept or oct.

go with new , def.
