Question:

Best second language for a new lawyer to know?

I'm a soon-to-be personal injury attorney. I'd like to learn an additional language and interested in what language would best increase business. Spanish is an obvious choice, but I am also considering Portuguese.

I work for an East Coast plaintiffs' firm. I am currently in Pennsylvania and New Jersey but considering moving to South Carolina or Georgia.

I also know German, but I have not used it at all since college.

  2. I'm sorry to hear about your situation. I was hurt once in West Virginia when a delivery truck backed over my foot at work. My company tried to settle with me fast because they knew it wasn't my fault. I called a nearby personal injury lawyer in my area who gave me excellent advice and I was able to get a decent settlement to cover my hosptial bills that weren't covered by my primary insurance. I'd find a lawyer in New Jersey. http://www.accidentlawyerlocator.com/New... My personal injury lawyer was help me because they hope to make some money at the same time. Try calling a injury lawyer to see if they can help.

Sorry to hear about your situation.

  3. Research the area you want to work in.  Determine the clientele you'd have.  Like you said, Spanish is probably the obvious choice...and if I were you I'd stick to that one.  Everything is already written in English and Spanish these days...kind of a hint that you'll end up with more than one person who is more fluent in Spanish than English...
