  1. You are correct. Silk is the best choice. I'm  not talking about the slippery satin or sateen stuff, I'm talking about real silk sheets. They are used in many sleep clinics, and many of the better hotels use them also. They actually appear to be cotton until closer inspection. I love sleeping on silk. Seems to help the body stay more comfortable.

  2. oooooooooooooooo bamboo sheets. they FEEL like silk, but are cheaper.

SO soft and SO silky!!!! and made from a renewable source!!!

  3. plain cotton 400 + thread count, washed and dried and then ironed is much better than silk.  An ironed cotton sheet will feel like silk but will not slide off the bed.  Silk used for sheets is actually much thicker than say a silk shirt so don't be fooled by the hype.

  4. Believe it or not I argued with my wife till I was blue in the face over thread count and she ended up the victor. My wife explained to me about the higher thread count being softer and more comfortable to sleep on and boy was she so right.

Most sheets we tend to buy are around 180 TC, you can find this number on any set of sheets and pillowcases. We have a store called  Ocean State Job Lots here in New England that has some awesome deals on this kind of stuff. I ended up buying a couple sets of 600TC sheets at $40 per set for the King size which is a real good price. We also bought an 800TC set just to see the differance. I couldn't tell any differance btween the 600 or 800 as they both were silky soft after being washed. The feal is night and day in compairison to a regular set you may buy at the store. Make sure you buy 100% cotton or a cotton blend. I would say anything from 400TC is going to give you noticable comfort when useing them. Overstock sells many high TC sheets and pillowcases at a reasonable price. Dont fall for the 1000TC Egyption cotton BS adds however. Real sheets like that according to my wife would never cost under $600 per set. Stick to between 400-800TC and check their feedback and customer comments before the purchase. Little things like that improve your comfort beyond belief. AS I said, I was a skeptic over the whole "thread count" issue untill I listened to my wife and now I cant see myself ever going back to a cheap Martha Stewart set for $80 when it is made of 100% scratchy polyblend.

  5. I like a fine cotton in a high thread count. Generally speaking, the higher the thread count, the more luxurious the sheets. My budget is in the 400 - 600 thread count, and I buy my sheets on sale at Tuesday Morning or on Overstock.com. High thread count cotton is soft and cool, and it gets softer with laundering.

For added luxury, spritz your sheets and pillows lightly with a lavender linen spray, light a lavender candle, and put on some soft music - piano, strings, or guitar. If you can find  a CD that combines one of these instruments with the sound   of gentle rain, it'll be heavenly. Be sure to blow out the candle before you turn in, though. You'll sleep like a baby!

  6. I like sleeping in total comfort.  Over the years, I have tried just about EVERYTHING you can sleep on that might make you feel the least bit sleepy.  I have had feather mattresses, nice, but that temporpedic foam mattress cover doubled in THE BEST sink into feeling.  I've done flannel, I've done satin, simple organic cotton, and so on, my favorite are the ones I paid $100 at Sams and they are 1200 tc and I must say, at first all I noticed was how incredibly HEAVY they are.  Each time I have washed them has been a new and more luxurious experience than the last.  They are AWESOME!  I have lovely down filled pillows, with 1200 tc count pillow cases atop 1200 tc count sheets on top of the temporpedic foam twin layers of pure comfort and dreamy sleep.  I can't wait to lay down and I am asleep in 10 minutes or less.  The dogs, kids and anyone who has even SAT on my bed, beg to sleep in it.  I lucked out on these sheets, they had some special deal and when I had washed mine a couple of times and realized what a deal they really were, I went back (only like 2 weeks later, and EVERY LAST SET WAS GONE!  I found out later, these sheets normally sell for$1000.  I wish I had bought at least 3 sets!  While silk is nice, I found them incredibly expensive, hard to care for, and something I couldn't use year round.  But for pillow cases, I might go ahead and invest and deal with the increased care, but for a whole set, probably not.  Hope this helps you!  Good luck and good sleep to you!
