Question:

Best snowboard brand?

I'm somewhat of a beginner but am looking to get a good board. I was thinking Burton but I'm not sure if it is just a popular name and not such a good board. Also do I need to go for a female board or does it matter? Thanks for any help.

  1. Burton makes decent boards but overcharges for them based on their name.  There are many many other companies that aren't as well known that make great boards that are often cheaper like Gnu and Lib Tech.

If you want to get a good board go to a board shop and tell them what you're looking for price and skills wise and they'll set you up with something good.  Go to a proper board shop, not just a box store where the staff don't always know much about boards.

Girls boards are different from guys boards in that they're usually a bit narrower and are more flexible.  You don't have to stick with a girls board though, if you can find a soft guys board it'll ride more or less like a girls board.  The only thing that might trip you up on a guys board (if it's got a good flex to it) is the width.  That'll give you more stability but will make it harder to make a nice tight crisp turn.

I just bought my first board last month and went in looking for a soft guys board and wound up with a Forum Star 146 even though there were a few guys boards I could have ridden, I was put off by the width of them.  I hope this helps!!
