Do not want headphones that do not allow others in the room to hear the TV. Surround sound system that can be manuevered near the chair where hearing impaired person sits most often? Is this the way to go? Have seen the things you hang around your neck - but they seem so gimicky. Help.

  1. I have purchased Sony stereo wireless headphones (about $129 in Canada) that you hook up to your cable box that have Audio Out receptacles.

The reason I got them so I could watch & listen to Sports which my wife hates. I turn the volume on the TV all the way down. We do not have surround sound but the tv have very good stereo sound. IHowever, you can turn up the volume on the TV to the desired level for all and the imparied person can use the headphones with whatever volume they need.

I don't know what configuration you have in your surround system but if you have a separate cable/satellite box with Audio Out, I am sure it can be accomodated.

We have a satellite dish and tv out at our house on the farm and it works the same way there.
