Best splashes at the 2011 World Deaf Swimming Championships in Coimbra
The 2011 World Deaf Swimming Championships were held in Coimbra, Portugal, from August 6-13. The session of the meet saw several impressive performances, where Luca Germano of Italy took home the Men’s 400m freestyle crown and Rebecca Meyers won the Women’s
400m freestyle title.  
In the beginning, Germano produced a mouth shattering splash on the podium and snagged the Men’s 400m freestyle title by a sterling time of 4 minutes and 03.09 seconds. The splash thrashed Nicky Lange’s best time of 4 minutes and 12.64 seconds, set back
in 2007.
Meanwhile, Artur Pioro of Poland snared silver in a time of 4 minutes and 06.85 seconds and Callum Ross of Great Britain snagged bronze in 4 minutes and 09.19 seconds. Ukraine’s Arterm Karnysh finished fourth on the podium by posting a time of 4 minute and
14.59 seconds, whereas, Vitally Obotin of Russia settled fifth in 4 minutes and 15.37 seconds. Great Britain’s Jack Mccomish surprisingly wound up eighth in a time of 4 minutes and 20.56 seconds.
Additionally, Germano snatched the Men’s 200m butterfly crown on the podium by submitting a record time of 2 minutes and 01.71 seconds. Russia’ Ilya Trishkin captured silver in a time of 2 minutes and 05.71 seconds, whereas, Kabbach G of Brazil snared bronze
in 2 minutes and 10.72 seconds.
Moreover, Germano clinched the Men’s 200m freestyle title by a winning time of 1 minute and 53.40 seconds. Brazil’s Kabbach G finished second in a time of 1 minute and 56.17 seconds, while Artur Pioro of Poland rounded out the top three in 1 minute and 56.20
seconds.
While revealing about his swim, Italian swimmer, Germano commented that he was really mesmerised with his individual effort in the current edition of the meet.
The Women’s 400m freestyle crown was clinched by United States’ Rebecca Meyers with a victorious time of 4 minutes and 31.70 seconds. The effort thrashed her previous best time of 4 minutes and 34.32 seconds. Meanwhile, Ukraine’s Anna Tovsta snared silver
title in the platform by submitting a striking time of 4 minutes and 36.41 seconds and Great Britain’s Hannah Fitton captured the bronze medal in a time of 4 minutes and 39.98 seconds.
In the corresponding meet, Rebecca Meyers’ team-mate, Samantha Elam picked fourth place honours in a time of 4 minutes and 41.33 seconds. On the other hand, Maria Kalimina of Russia rounded out the top five seeds with a time of 4 minutes and 42.01 seconds,
while United States’ Kristin Ates wound up sixth on the stage by a time of 4 minutes and 42.28 seconds.
Germany’s Jarmila Gupta was placed seventh in a time of 4 minutes and 43.53 seconds, whereas, Argentina’s Maria Celeste Punet wound up eighth in a time of 4 minutes and 48.72 seconds.
Both athletes, Luca Germano and Rebecca Meyers took a huge round of applause from the crowd due to their impressive splash in the Men’s and Women’s 400m freestyle final meet, respectively.
