I'm looking for a bike that i can buy and keep for awhile. I'm a college student at bsc (buffalo state college) and i want to get a bike that i can learn on and have for awhile. i dont have the money to buy a ninja 250 and upgrade later like ive been recommended to do. i was thinking of a katana 600, sv650n or a gs500. are these good bikes? does anyone have another suggestion? i would be buying used of course.

p.s. i will be moving away from the snow in 2 years or so. lol

  1. i have a ninja 250 and my dad has a ninja 500.  the 250 is faster that most cars and it is cheap to own,  if you have experience or are bigger the gs 500 or in ninja 500 would be a good way to go.  my bike is fast enough for me, 6 foot 160lbs, but the 500 you may accidentally get the front tire off the ground...

  2. I have a Kawasaki Ninja 500, I got it new for 4500 and use it as my commute bike (40 miles one way).  I get 60 mpg and took all my safety courses and license requirements on it for the army.  Also another good one is a Honda nighthawk.  It's a 250 smallish but not too small.  I am 6 ft 250 and rode it for 4 years of high school.  You can find them used for very little and the will accept quit a few accessories.  They also get 90 mpg.  Eventually you will always want a bigger bike but starting at a midpoint and working up will help you learn better than going big and getting hurt.

  3. gs 500 is good starter bike .good brakes mid weight torquey motor ,cheap to run.
