Question:

Best steak you ever had?

My best friend had a Bobby Flay steak in Vegas that he said was the best (and he is not a thin man). I live in Chicago and I love going to NY where I had my favorite steak at a Smith and Wollenskys. So bonus points if it's in Chicago or NY but if you're right, please let me know. Price is not an object.

  2. I think Longhorn has really good steaks. The best is Ruth Chris.

  3. mine was at the Outback...

  4. First of all, the VERY VERY best steaks are not in the US. Brazil usually has better steaks. The best are in Argentina. The most famous steakhouse in Argentina is a place called La Cabana in Buenos Aires. I was going to eat there the last time I was in Argentina, but the manager and concierge told me to go to place a place called Las Nazerenas instead. You see, they are both famous but La Cabana gets all the tourists and a typical meal there is over $100, like $120-$140 per person; whereas Las Nazarenas -some swear is even better - is still pricey, but a typical meal is about $70-$80 per person.

Well, the steak was awesome. As soon as I tasted it I knew it was the best I ever had or ever will have. It was extraordinary. I can't describe it ... the flavor, texture, etc was just perfect. Steak is the national dish of Argentina. They take it very seriously over there.

I've had Kobe Beef in Japan. It's also really good, but a bit over-rated.

In the US the best steak I ever had was the excellant Chateaubriand at Bern's Steak House in Tampa, Florida.

Places like The Palm, Smith & Wollensky, Ruth's Chris, even Peter Luger in Brooklyn ... PHOOEY! Second rate steaks! Overpriced!

  5. The best steak I had was at a restaurant called that was attached to a ritzy hotel in Pennsylvania. It was Surf and Turf and was absolutely fabulous.

  6. The best steak I ever had was in Portland, Oregon at a Morton's of Chicago restaurant - so I hope that counts as a "Chicago steak."  It was very expensive, but it was just stupendously good.  It was perfectly cooked (I like my steaks medium rare) and it did, literally, melt in my mouth.  I have worked in several restaurants and the chefs seem to agree that a rib eye is the best steak for flavor.

  7. A couple of years ago I ate at a steak house called Stoney Creek West of Chicago..I do not remember the suburb..Maybe Skokie or something with an S. They had Great Steak. It is hard to say who had the best. I have had quite a few steaks!

  8. My place.  California Coast.

I've got a special marinade I call "Secret Sin" that will turn you inside out.

    Bring the Cabernet...
