Best success stories of 2010 Formula One season (Part 1)
The 2010 Formula One season was one of the most amazing and exhilarating seasons ever seen in 60 years of the sports’ history. From the curtain raiser, Bahrain Grand Prix, to the last round in Abu Dhabi, the season never went short of drama, thrill and action.
It is hard to remember any other season of the series that saw so many unexpected results and such twists and turns in the championship at one after the other race.
For so many events, so much drama, on, and off track action, there are various views and reactions of the people involved in the sport. When the race gurus and experts were asked about their best success story of the season, the following interesting replies
were received.
Sir Stirling Moss
One of the biggest names in Formula One world, and the winner of 16 Grand Prix said,
"I've enjoyed following Jenson Button's progress at McLaren. When he joined I told him that he was putting his head in the lion's mouth, but I think he's come out rather well and I think that has been one of the biggest success stories of the year."
Button joined the British team at the start of this season after having won the first title of his career with Brawn GP in 2009. The driver enjoyed an amazing season with the team last year as he bagged victory at six out of the first seven races, and it
was far before the end of the season that he had already secured his championship.
However, as the season ended, and Button declared to move to the British squad, many believed that the move is not a wise one. McLaren has been commonly known as ‘Hamilton’s team’ for a long time now as its driver, Lewis Hamilton, is such a dominating part
of the team. Despite all the warnings, Button not just shifted to the team but was also able to make a decent place for himself in the team.
The driver has not only been able to share an equal repute and fan-following with his teammate, Hamilton, but also the relation of the two is thought to be the best one among all Formula One teammates. Moreover, the 2009 champion has also been able to perform
very well all through the year, and had been a strong contender of the title till the second last race of the season.
While reflecting at the season now, Sir Stirling Moss believes that Button has tailored a perfect success story of the season and also believes that the next season is going to be an even better one for him.
Sir Jackie Stewart
On the other hand, the three-time world champion, Sir Jackie Stewart believes that the chief technical officer of Red Bull, Adrian Newey and his team crafted the best success story of the year. Stewart explained saying, “The Red Bull/Adrian Newey domination
(makes the best success story). Next year it will be very interesting to see whether they have the outright ambition to win back-to-back titles."
The Red Bull Racing had been able to dominate the track with their super fast RB6 and two brilliant drivers, Mark Webber and the new World Champion, Sebastian Vettel. After only the sixth season of the team with the toughest racing series of the world, this
Austrian squad has been able to win both the Drivers’ as well as the Constructors’ Championship.
The great management skills of the youngest team boss of the sport, Christian Horner, and an amazingly fast car, designed by Adrian Newey are the two key factors behind the remarkable victory of the German driver, Vettel and his team.
