I have a ps3 and an Olivia HDTV now i am looking to buy a surround sound system for around $300-$500 and I would prefer it to be wireless. This will mostly be used with ps3 games and Blu-Ray movies. I would prefer it to be wireless because the room it is going in is about 15' x 15' and does not have room for wires. So i was wondering what the best system would be for that use and price range.

Thanks for your help.

  1. How does a 15'x15' room not have space for a few millimeters of wire? In your price range you will not find anything wireless that is of even moderate quality. Wires, even 6 sets of wires, just don't take up much room. In your price range you can get a barely acceptable separate component system if you shop very carefully. And this will be on line. You will not find a separate component system for that price at BB or CC. And if you are playing games and BD you do NOT want a HTIB.

  2. You will need a wired system.  First off wireless systems are not perfect yet and suffer from audio dropouts, interferance from cell phones, microwaves, people walking in front of the speaker and overall very poor audio sound.

Best to run 16 guage or higher (14 or 12 gauge) wire under the baseboards along the wall to run speaker wire.  I will admit you are not going to get the best performance for that price, but since cost is a factor, I would recommend buying 5 Insignia speakers (70.00/ea) at Best Buy (good sounding speakers for an affordable price).  I would buy an older reciever from a pawn shop that is DD/DTS capable and has at least 100 watts per channel.  Always write the model number of the reciever at the pawn shop, go home and do a search on the reciever and check out Audioreview.com for people just like you who have bought and owned the gear you are reviewing.

I'm sorry but a 300-500.00 budget will not leave you any money for a very important subwoofer either.  I would think about doubling that budget to even begin to get a sound system you won't have regrets about buying.
