  1. i use tampax compact. you really shouldnt be able to feel any tampon inside you, are you sure youre putting them in correctly?

  2. I would highly recommend that you do not use tampons at all, this is because tampons are unhygienic and unsafe, they are linked with various health problems including increased menstrual cramps that would make running more difficult for you, this is because tampons prevent normal vaginal cleaning, give bacteria a place to multiply, damage vaginal walls and contain synthetics, chemicals, additives and bleaches (see http://www.spotsite.org tampon health web site). Those risks are increased in young women of your age because your vaginal walls are more delicate so more prone to damage; your immune system is also not as strong as in fully-grown women so if you were to come down with TSS the risk of death is increased.

Seriously, I’m not just speaking as someone who works in women’s health but also from personal experience, tampons are inconvenient, uncomfortable, dangerous and unhygienic – there are over twenty menstrual options available to you, tampons are the worst in every way.

I would suggest that you look into using either menstrual cups or softcups instead, these are not only safe and clean but easier to use, more comfortable, more convenient, environmentally friendly and cheaper than tampons. Menstrual cups can be worn safely for up to 12 hours at a time without leaking – this includes from heavy to light flow, when not menstruating, when you go to sleep at night and for sports. Basically as well as huge benefits when it comes to cleanliness and safety they will be better for running as they will not cause cramping, they will not leak, and it means you can wear them at any time of your cycle (unlike with tampons, if your flow is light then you will have to be wearing pads anyway, you cannot use tampons with light menstrual flow). Personally I’d recommend either Ladycup http://www.ladycup.com or Miacup http://www.miacup.co.za for your age, or the softcup brand Instead http://www.softcup.com

In the end it is your choice, however it should be an educated choice and no one who is educated about their vaginas, tampons and other menstrual options would ever use tampons – it’s not just about safety but also convenience and comfort too.

If you do use tampons then use organic tampons, these are identical to commercial tampons like Tampax and can be bought in the same places; however organic tampons do not contain synthetics, additives, chemicals or bleach so they are much safer and more hygienic so reduce your risks of infections, TSS and cancer. Remember too that you always need to change your tampons regularly, always use the lowest absorbency possible, never use tampons during a light flow, never use tampons when not menstruating and never wear tampons to bed – you are at a greatly increased risk from tampon use, more so if you use commercial tampons, more so again if you are a teen, so at least take these precautions.

Try brands such as Cottons, these are a very good brand, reliable, safe, green, cheap and widely available - http://www.cottons.com.au

Have you considered different pads too? If using commercial pads or organic pads these can be bulky, and gather up, not to mention sweaty due to the synthetics in commercial pads – they don’t let air get to your v***a, thus why they can be so uncomfortable. If you try padded panties or period belts these may be better for you when running. Padded panties you can get from Lunapads http://www.lunapads.com and are basically like normal underwear but with pads built-in making them very comfortable, secure and reliable. Period belts you can get from Reddy’s http://www.reddyspads.com are like long pads that are fastened around your waste, they are much longer than pads so give more protection and sit next to your body so more reliable and secure.

  3. tampax sport? idk just wear a panty liner too
