Only going to have one day spare, what's the best thing to see or do for someone who's never been there before?

  1. You could save the world from a comet.  That would be a pretty good accomplishment for one day's work.  Of course, it requires many improbably events to go in your favor.

  2. Queen Victoria Markets, City Circle Tram (free and it's amazing), have a cafe latte in the CBD, check out the vintage and thrift stores.

  3. Drink beer

  4. what are you more interested in? Culture, shopping, activities?

I would go into the city in the morning and ride the city circle tram around (it's free) getting off to look at any interesting sites or to do some shopping.

I'd then go the zoo in the afternoon and go to an evening AFL match at either the MCG or Telstra Dome.

  5. Catch the free tram around the city...Go up the Rialto building lookout...Visit Parliament House...Have lunch at Young and Jackon Hotel or Taxi (bit more pricey)....Have a beer at Transport Bar (Federation Square)....Have a walk along the Yarra river....Visit the Crown Casino in the evening and be there to see the fire/flame show!!! I think it is every hour. Should be a fun day!

  6. go for a tram ride!!!!

You would be able to see alot of Melbourne's tourist attractions when you hop on a tram (especially the FREE city Circle tram), and if you see an attraction that you like, just hop off!!

  7. You have to plan ahead if you only have one day.

A wander around the CBD will show you interesting sites.  You could go up Eureka Tower, go shopping, go to museums and art galleries.  It's a big city with a lot to see and do.

Maybe have a coffee in one of the many cafes dotting the side streets off Swanston St and just meander.

  8. The markets are great
