  1. You don't say what part of Spain you are coming to but this is an answer I gave recently in postcard form. Other members will fill you in on the places I have missed out and believe me there are many as Spain is such a large and diverse country.

One thing I would add though is to avoid the likes of Mc Donnalds, Burger King and British bars as you can go to these places in your own country.Stick to Spanish whenever you can.

Please follow the links and click on photos and you will see such a lot of Spain

    Dear Olivie

Cruise has been great so far. Sailed into Malaga harbor and headed straight for the city. This is the birth place of Picasso and his house has been turned into a museum.

Take a look at this. Have to add links because there is too much to write on a post card

Just click on the link and then on the first picture to see what I got up to in the Malaga region. I think you will be rather suprised to see what's there. I had a ride in a horse drawn carrige, went swiming, scuba diving and rock climbing. Visited the caves at Nerja, saw Ronda and went canoeing on lake Zahara.

Next stop was the province of Cadiz.

The city of Cadiz is the oldest city in Europe, facinating.

Here I went horse riding on the beach, did a bit of wind surfing and toured the white villages. Click on any of the pictures.

    Next stop Madrid

The region of Madrid is unique in having only one province - of the same name, and the same capital for the city, the province and the nation. A little confusing perhaps - but at least everyone knows where it is - right in the centre of Spain. Here I checked out the city sights and the theme parks. The dolphins were great.

    Now for Seville

As I got here it was the begining of Holy Week. This is an absolutely phenominal experience and I really recommend it.

I couldn't leave without experiencing the April Fair.

This party went on all day and all night long, fantastic food and lots and lots and lots to drink

Now to Granada where I visited the Alhambra Palace

The Alhambra palace is the most famous building in the city and one of the wonders of Spain. It is in a superb location, on a richly wooded hillside with spectacular views across the city and beyond. It is one of Spain’s most visited places

I also went skiing in the Siera Nevada

This awesome mountain range is part of the beautiful natural heritage of Nevada; its higher reaches are covered with snow throughout the year. It was known to the Arabs of the Middle Ages as the Sierra del Sol, as it contains some of the rarest wildflowers in Spain.

    Now for something completely different.

I decided to take a balloon ride in Barcelona before seeing what the city had to offer at ground level.

Barcelona is such a vibrant city with lots to see during the day and plenty to do at night. Watching the street performers is great fun and the shopping there is fantastic

Barcelona has an impressive cultural history dating as far back as its Roman origins. The city fiercely guards its rich artistic heritage yet also fosters new modern trends. As a result there is an endless choice of cultural and leisure activities on offer, with museums, exhibitions and sculptures as well as a hearty helping of music, theatre and dance.

Well now I am back on the beach at Malaga and I am watching my cruise ship sail out to sea because I love Spain and have decided to stay

Will send you another post card soon

  2. Spain is many countries all rolled into one therefore the culture in Spain is very varied and interesting. See http://www.spain4uk.co.uk/Spain_culture.... for more details.

  3. The most enjoyable things?  There is so much! But my favorite:

Order a cafe con leche (coffee with milk) and a tortilla espanola (spanish egg and potato omelet) or pastry.

    Stroll around.

At around 1 or 2 in the afternoon, find a little cafe with a Menu del Dia sign and have a great meal!

Get lost wandering around some neighborhoods.

    Check out some bars/taverns.

The rest is great too -- museums, sites, beaches, bars and nightlife. But the food and drink is the best!

Practice some Spanish -- that will make it more fun too.

Every region of Spain is very different so be sure to take time to explore. During the summer Madrid and Sevilla will be hot -- be sure to head out to the coast. And for a very interesting side-trip, you might even take a ferry to Morocco.

  4. Here was my favorite thing I did while I was in Spain for the summer. There is this huge festival call festival de los fuegas in this little beach town called Alicante. It's in southern spain. Anyway, it's a 5 day festival full of parties, parades, fireworks, and floats. On the last day they vote on the best float and set the rest on fire. It was one of the best times I've ever had. I think it's in the end of June.

  5. you dont mentioon wheer your going but in most of spain theres always plenty to do...............................fairs and bars and parts and beaches and history there always loads to do.......................

if you tell me where ur going, ill give you a better idea

  6. First time in Spain eh Olivie?

    I'm so envious!

I've been out there for approx 4 months for past 20 years and still get that buzz every day I'm there.

Just chill out and enjoy, you'll love it!

    Have fun.
