Best time to buy airline tickets?

My mom and I are going on a cruise this winter and we aren't sure if we should book plane tickets now or wait until just before we leave to save money? What is the best option?

Usually plane tickets are always cheaper in the winter.

Better early than later. I actually read somewhere at the best day of the week and best time of day to buy a ticket is on Wednesday at 1am

Oil is at near record highs. Every airline has announced that they will reduce the number of flights offered so that seats will be more scarce and they can charge more money.

Barring a collapse of the US economy, there is little reason to believe that fares will be cheaper next winter. In fact, they might be a lot more.
