Question:

Best time to cross San Ysidro border coming into US?

Today we waited for an hour and a half to cross the San Ysidro border to come home to the US. We live in San Diego, about 15 min from the border, and it is so frustrating to sit for that long, so close to home! We would be happy to spend more time in Mexico having fun, and cross the border at a different time....so the question is to those of you that cross regularly: What is the best time to cross back to the US to avoid a long wait? If there are different times for weekends vs. weekdays, it would be great if you could list those too. Thank you!

  1. Lately, there is no best time. The political mavens keep meeting in DC and talk about opening up new crossings. It hasn't happened yet. Nobody seems to realize that the economy on both sides of the border suffers because of the long waits. I have to cross tomorrow and dreading it.

  2. Usually 9am and 12 midnight  is a good way to cross back since not so many people go at these times. However, it  really varies everyday so I suggest you listen to a radio station that announces the activities in the border- so you'll know how many people are asking. You;re going to have to ask a local though because I don't remember which station anymore.

  3. monday-thursday you usually dont have to wait more then 20 minutes if you cross early in the morning.

if you wait to cross later on in the day then i would wait till after 9....i usually have no problems crossing at those times so hopefully you dont either.

friday-sundar is the worst....ive waited in line for over 2 hours, and theres really no best time for these days. like someone already said, check out the local radio stations because they usually tell you how many cars are crossing from san ysidro and otay....that way you can get an idea.....or you could always cross the border walking

  4. it used to be either 9:30am, or most days 3:30pm.. but since the fires it's been over an hour almost constantly....
