Best time to see a meteor in Socal?

At what time is the best time to see a meteor in Southern California? Also, anyone know when the next meteor shower

is?

I live in Washington, so cali is about the same.  Every august around the 11 there is a huge meteor shower.  That is when my sister's b-day is and we always go camping to watch it. I think it last for a week or so.
