I never took my honeymoon. I got married last year so we're planning a trip to Mexico either the end of this year or very early 2009. I'm thinking the last week of January.. is that a good time? I'm also thinking about going to Cancun because there's a lot of good all inclusive deals.. is that a good idea? I don't want to party, I just want to have fun and relax.

  1. Try your hardest to avoid Cancun the last week of December through the second week of January.  Before or after are awesome weather wise.  Be very careful with the all inclusive deals though, and please avoid the Occidental Grand Xcaret.  It is a complete ripoff, as well as an hour away from Cancun proper. We stayed at the Xcaret last December/January and the experience was horrible to say the least.

I've heard great things about the Spa Palace, (another all inclusive) though it is still an hour drive from the airport.  I've known several people who've taken romantic trips to the Spa Palace, and all have loved it.

It really depends on what you plan to do while there.  All inclusive is really a good deal overall, because Cancun is pretty touristy, thus pricey.  Just make sure you do your research on the particular hotels first.  And read a lot of reviews!  Have a blast!

  3. Best time is gonna be November thru April. Low humidity and no mosquitos or rain - just heaven.

I call Cancun Gringoville - you will hardly know you are in a foriegn country - seriously ! Alot of young , drunk Americans - not my style. I travel internationally to explore the people and culture , not be around Americans - whats the point.

I live in Acapulco - yes we have foriginers but no where near like Cancun.

Try Acapulco - November tru April. You should see the fireworks from the beach out over the bay and the party on New Years Eve. The Navy actually fires from the other side of the mountain range and into the bay - incredible.

We have Pie de la Cuesta 30 minutes north of town. Undiscovered and deserted beach that goes on as far as the eye can see. Completely deserted. On average 20 foot waves that are incredible.

Ixtapa/ Zuhantinaho is 3 hours north - Ixtapa is pretty incredible itself. Could make a day trip and stay there overnight. Just dont limit your options to Cancun - I'm amazed at how every American goes there - its a huge country with so much beauty and all people know is Cancun. I explore and travel all the time down here and I am blown away at the undiscovered deserted beaches that I find, I wont devoulge the good ones.

Get creative and explore your options - you and your wife can find some real hidden gems that they will wait on you hand and foot for pennies a day. They bend over backwards to wait on you as they are undiscovered and rural and have no money , so when a gringo shows up they roll out the red carpet :):):)

Ive been down some pretty rural roads and came out to a little mom and pop hotel with a beach that would make Halmark cry. They invite you in their home and treat you like family for half the cost of Gringoville.
