what's the best tip you ever got to hit a solid golf shot? Forget score - concentrating on chipping and putting etc. I want to know what's the best method to hit a solid straight golf shot? My research tells me it slow on the backswing and swing from the ground up on the downsing. But, when I "try" this or any method - I get the same inconsistent result.

  1. shorten the backswing and make a good tempo... keep the head still and hips in the same place

  2. Here is the book I used. You can buy it right from Amazon from independent people. Jack Nicklaus wrote it, so you know it's from a trusted source.

    Good Luck

  3. The absolute best way to hit a solid shot is to hit DOWN on the golf ball.  Most players don't do this.  Look at the divots the pros take.   Hit down on the ball!

  4. The best tip I got was to check/change my grip.  I went from a baseball grip to a overlapping grip.  A guy just walked up to me on the range and showed me it.

  5. Best advice I ever got? "Never take swing advice from people on the internet." Trust me, it works wonders.

  6. Shorter backswing and hit thru the ball with a descending blow.

  7. keep your left arm straight and if you're left handed keep your right arm straight and make sure the ball is in the right part on your stance depending on what club you have in hand

  8. “FOUR MAGIC MOVES to winning golf” by Joe Dante is a great book! Not many pictures, but if you are serious pick it up.

    Tip 1

At the top of your swing the first move should be a lateral move, toward the target, with your hips. Not a shift or rotation.

    Tip 2

Tight right elbow, get a nice inside out move.

    Tip 3

Lag or late hit for power and speed, don’t slap, hit through the ball, especially with your driver, golf is a sport, play like it! Does it look like tiger is "taking it easy" when he hits 320?

*** I forgot the best tip; practice your through swing. The point en-witch you make contact, until the complete follow-through. Notice the closing of the club-head, bent left arm, straightening of the right arm. Watch tiger at 33 seconds in this video:

This is the part of the swing most golfers don’t practice, and it is critical to hitting clean shots. If you watched the pro-am this weekend, you may have noticed, the smooth, balanced follow through of the pros VS the “good” armatures, stumbling, out of position, follow though.

  9. Put a tee in the ground about 4 feet behind the ball.  When you take your backswing, act like you are trying to hit the tee when you take the club back.  This will help you to get on a more level swing path, instead of swinging inside-out, or outside-in.  But try it on the range before going out to the course.

  10. Keep your head down, have a target, And ball placement in your stance is a major factor.

  11. The saying, "stay behind the ball" comes to mind. People just don't realize how simple it truly is to hit solid golf shots. 3/4 punch shots are as basic as keeping your head down.

  12. When I am hitting it poorly it is always one of the ABTs which stand for alignment, balance, and tempo.

  13. Keep your head down

  14. The best tip is dont hit the ball .. hit through the ball.

  15. Keep your elbow straight and only back swing parellel to the ground. Once you are hitting straight you can back swing further.

  16. One word...

    Tempo..
