  1. DON'T USE CHEMICALS!  Purchase a plastic tool from Lowes or Home Depot called a "ZIP IT".  Insert the pointed end into the drain, and pull the clog out.

  2. Best repair is mechanical.  Remove the trap and clean it out.  They also make a tool that looks like a zip tie with teeth.  you can push it down to the clog and pull out the hair or obstruction. Be very careful when using the drain cleaners, they are very strong and can be a problem later if you have to remove the traps.

I put bleach down the drains weekly and this tends to keep them clean and fresh.  Do not let the bleach set full strength on the chrome, or it might discolor or etch.  very hot water can also help clean out oily residue.

If the odors smell like sewer, you may have a problem with a clogged vent. this can also cause your drains to run slower.  Look on the roof for a white plastic pipe and be sure it looks unobstructed (birds nest, ice in winter. etc)

    good luck

  3. Before you use any chemicals, I would remove the drain trap and extricate the huge slimy hairball that has accumulated there. That's why it's running slow and smells bad.

  4. both are the same thing. probably hair clogging it. maybe try stick something down there to try to pull up. wire or something. draino could work?

  5. Use an enzyme drain cleaner such as Draincare by Zep. Caustic cleaners eat a hole in the clog and run down the pipes, leaving a partial clog to rebuild. Enzyme cleaners cling to and "eat" organic clogs. Less than $10 at Home Centers and hardware stores for a jug that will give at least 20 uses. Safe for all piping systems including septics.

  6. Wal Mart has a box of drain crystals(less than 10 bucks) It works real well. Just spoon in some of it to a slow drain and it works! My washer drain was slow and my bathroom sink. Now both work better than they have in many moons.
